Lanesboro, Minnesota – This is one of my favorite spring festivals in all of Minnesota. It’s silly, wacky and totally unique. Kind of like the charming southern Minnesota town of Lanesboro. You’ll definitely want to mark your calendars for June 1, 2024 – because it’s time for the Lanesboro Rhubarb Festival!
A Town Obsessed with Rhubarb
In the quaint town of Lanesboro, Minnesota, nestled in the picturesque Bluff Country, folks have a serious love affair with rhubarb. This historic community, known for its charming bed-and-breakfasts and the Root River State Trail, takes its devotion to the tart veggie to a whole new level. In fact, the Minnesota State Legislature even proclaimed Lanesboro the “Rhubarb Capital of Minnesota” back in 2008!
A Festival Like No Other
Every year on the first Saturday in June, the entire town gathers in Sylvan Park to celebrate their beloved vegetable at the Lanesboro Rhubarb Festival. From 9am to 4pm, rhubarb enthusiasts of all ages come together for a day filled with zany fun, delicious treats, and more rhubarb than you can shake a stalk at!
Rhub-Art, Fashion, and Feats of Strength
At this quirky festival, you’ll find all sorts of rhubarb-themed shenanigans. Admire the creative “rhub-art” on display, or strut your stuff in the rhubarb fashion show – the wackier the outfit, the better! Flex your green thumb by entering the largest leaf and heaviest stalk contests. And don’t miss the hilarious rhubarb rant competition, where participants let loose their best rhubarb-inspired tirades.
Tasting the Tartness
