NEWPORT BEACH, CA – It was a scene straight out of a Baywatch episode—except this time, there was no lifeguard running in slow motion. A California motorist found themselves in deep water early Saturday when their Jeep got stuck in the surf at Corona del Mar Main Beach. As waves crashed over the vehicle, a heroic team of first responders sprang into action, proving that even the most dramatic beach rescues don’t need a red swimsuit to be successful.
Rescue Operation and Challenging Conditions
At approximately 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, the Newport Beach Fire Department received a report of a vehicle stranded in the water. Emergency crews from both the police and fire departments were quickly on site. According to the fire department, “despite the challenging conditions caused by waves rolling the vehicle in the surf,” the team was able to successfully rescue one individual from the water.
Photos released by the fire department show the Jeep partially submerged in the wet sand, with waves crashing around it. The vehicle appeared to be battered by the surf as responders worked to secure the motorist.
Medical Care and Transport
The rescued individual was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment. No further details about the person’s condition have been released. The fire department’s efforts were praised, with officials noting that “the teamwork and determination of all responders were critical in overcoming the hazards posed by the early morning surf.”
After the rescue, Newport Beach Public Works personnel worked to remove the vehicle from the water. Once safely out of the surf, the Jeep was prepared for towing.
Investigation Underway
Newport Beach police are now investigating how the vehicle ended up in the water. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released any additional details regarding the cause of the incident.
