Man with AK-47 Arrested Near RNC Security Zone!
MILWAUKEE, WI – Authorities in Milwaukee, Wisconsin have arrested a man outside the Republican National Convention (RNC) security perimeter for carrying an AK-47, ammunition, and other suspicious items without a concealed carry permit.
Arrest Details
Donnell Tinsley, 21, was apprehended by Homeland Security Agents while wearing a ski mask and carrying a large tactical backpack. According to court documents, Tinsley appeared nervous, with his hands shaking and his eyes darting from side to side.
Items Found
Special agents searched Tinsley’s backpack and discovered an AK-47, ammunition, a mask from the movie “Scream,” two sets of black gloves, a flashlight, and spray paint.
This incident took place on Monday outside the RNC’s external security zone, an area bustling with hotels, bars, and restaurants.
Witnesses and Additional Incidents
Witnesses reported seeing convention attendees passing through the area throughout the day on Wednesday. In a related incident, Columbus police on RNC detail shot and killed 43-year-old Sam Sharp Jr. on Tuesday after he allegedly threatened another man with a knife.
“These Columbus officers saved an unarmed man from death or serious injury,” stated Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson.
Security Measures
The RNC event has a significant security presence, with over 4,000 officers patrolling the area around the clock. Despite these recent incidents, Mayor Johnson noted that there have been no other significant security issues.
Legal Proceedings
In court on Wednesday, Tinsley’s defense attorneys argued that he was not competent to proceed with the trial. He will undergo evaluation by a forensics unit and has been ordered to remain in custody pending further assessment.
