LAKE OSWEGO, OR – Early Friday morning, a figure clad in dark clothing unleashed a barrage of bullets on a Lake Oswego residence, targeting the home of Chip Terhune, CEO of Oregon-based insurance firm SAIF. The attack, captured on surveillance footage, left the glass front door in pieces and sent shockwaves through the quiet neighborhood just outside Portland. Authorities are now hunting for the suspect, who vanished after the 4 a.m. assault, possibly escaping in a nearby vehicle.
CCTV Captures Masked Culprit
Grainy security camera footage, made public by police on Wednesday, reveals a person dressed in all black, possibly wearing a hoodie or ski mask. The individual grips a light-colored object, believed to be the firearm used in the attack.
Despite the clear evidence of the crime, the suspect’s identity remains unknown, and no arrests have been made.
Threats Precede the Shooting
The incident took an even darker turn when Terhune revealed a chilling detail to his staff of over 1,000 at SAIF, a not-for-profit workers’ compensation provider.
He informed employees that an email, allegedly from the shooter, had arrived shortly before the attack.
This message contained no direct threats toward specific individuals but included disturbing references to the names and addresses of SAIF workers and their families.
Terhune assured his team that law enforcement is deeply involved in the investigation.
Police Probe Ongoing
Authorities have yet to pinpoint a reason for the violent outburst at Terhune’s home.
The investigation continues, with police urging SAIF employees to report any unusual activity or concerns for their safety.
Terhune emphasized that officials requested the company refrain from releasing further details about the menacing email to avoid jeopardizing the case.
Echoes of a Recent CEO Attack
This alarming event comes just months after another high-profile shooting rocked the corporate world.
On December 4, UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot outside a New York City hotel by a hooded assailant. The suspect in that case, 26-year-old Luigi Mangione, an Ivy League graduate, allegedly harbored deep resentment toward the U.S. healthcare system.
Mangione, who has entered a not guilty plea to murder and terrorism charges, was recorded executing the attack at close range. While no direct link has been established, the similarities between the two incidents have raised eyebrows.
Company Responds to Crisis
Terhune, shaken but resolute, told SAIF employees he is cooperating fully with authorities. He encouraged vigilance among his workforce, acknowledging the unsettling nature of the threat-laden email.
As the manhunt for the Oregon gunman intensifies, the company and community remain on edge, awaiting answers in this unsettling case.
