CALEXICO, CA – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than 150 pounds of methamphetamine from a truck attempting to cross into the United States at the California – Mexico border. The drugs were hidden in a way that only advanced technology and trained dogs could uncover.
The Discovery: K9 Alert and Imaging Technology
On the evening of Sunday, January 5, 2025, a 46-year-old man driving a 2024 pickup truck approached the Calexico West Port of Entry. The driver, seeking entry into the U.S. from Mexico, was initially subjected to a primary inspection by CBP officers. After the initial check, the vehicle was referred for a secondary inspection.
During secondary inspection, officers deployed a CBP K9 unit that alerted them to the rear driver’s side of the truck.
Following this, non-intrusive imaging technology revealed irregularities within the front passenger and rear seats.
Officers then conducted a physical search of the vehicle, uncovering 11 foil-wrapped packages hidden in several locations under the seats, floor, and fenders of the truck.
Massive Methamphetamine Seizure
The total weight of the methamphetamine was 152.2 pounds. The substances inside the packages tested positive for methamphetamine, making this a significant drug bust.
âThis interception underscores the officersâ continued diligence and commitment to national security,â said Roque Caza, Area Port Director of Calexico.
âI am extremely proud of our officersâ exceptional ability to remain steadfast and vigilant while carrying out our mission and keeping our communities safe.â
CBP officers seized the truck along with the drugs. The driver was then taken into custody by Homeland Security Investigations for further processing.
