BLOOMINGTON, MN – The Mega Millions jackpot has climbed to an estimated $740 million ahead of Friday’s grand prize drawing.
No tickets matched all six numbers drawn on Tuesday night: white balls 12, 41, 43, 52 and 55, plus the gold Mega Ball 9. But with growing interest in the growing jackpot, there were more prizes at lower levels, with a total of 1,522,011 winning tickets. Two tickets, sold in Kansas and Michigan, matched the five white balls to win the second-tier prize of $1 million.
A total of 32 tickets across the country matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball to win the third-tier prize, 11 of which were increased to $40,000 because they included the optional Megaplier of 4x, while the remaining 21 were worth $10,000.
Mega millions officials said the current jackpot, if claimed in Friday’s drawing, would be the seventh largest jackpot in the history of the game. It is the largest Mega Millions jackpot since March.
The jackpot was last won on June 4, by a ticket in Illinois, worth $552 million. The only other jackpot won so far this year, worth $1.128 billion, remains unclaimed. The winning ticket was sold in New Jersey.
Officials say there has never been a winner in between jackpot levels of $656 million, which set a record in March 2012, and $1 billion. The six jackpot runs that topped $1 billion, the prize continued rolling above the $1 billion mark.
The current $740 million jackpot has an estimated cash value of $366.3 million.
The odds of winning the jackpot are about 1 in 302.5 million, but the odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24. Friday’s drawing will be conducted at 11 p.m. EST in Atlanta, Ga. Let us know in the comments if you’re playing! Good luck!
