LOS ANGELES, CA – Melina Alves on Wednesday denied having an affair with co-star Joey Lawrence a week after her estranged husband, Edward Rider, filed for divorce alleging the pair were romantically involved.
Samantha Cope previously filed for divorce from Lawrence, 48, after two years of marriage, and requested sole custody of their 1-year-old daughter, Dylan. Soon after her filing, it was reported that Lawrence allegedly had an affair with his “Socked in for Christmas” co-star Alves, 41.
While Cope cited irreconcilable differences in her divorce filing, Rider cited adultery in his filing.
“It is with a deep sadness and heavy heart that I must address the recent allegations about the relationship between myself and Joey Lawrence, which have unfortunately become a public matter,” Alves began her statement on Instagram on Wednesday.
She called the claims “deeply distressing” and said they were reported “inaccurately.”
“I want to clarify that there was no sexual relationship between myself and Joey while we were on set filming ‘Socked in for Christmas’,” she wrote.
“Our relationship was a meaningful friendship that developed naturally due to the many similarities in our personal situations,” she wrote.
“When I met Joey, I was immediately struck by his kindness, warmth, and genuine character. We found common ground in our shared experiences, which led to a strong, supportive friendship that has been a source of strength for both of us,” she wrote.
Later in her statement, Alves claimed she and Rider had been “estranged” since January 2023, living in separate rooms.
“Furthermore, I feel compelled to share that my estranged husband has presented situation that necessitated me to obtain a temporary restraining order,” she wrote.
