Opinion: Met Gala Should Move To The Midwest – Cornfields, Carhartts, Cheese Hats!
We are making a bold suggestion: Move the Met Gala out of New York City (boring!) and to a cornfield in Iowa. Here’s why it works. 🌽👢 #MetGalaMidwest #CornfieldCouture #CheeseheadChic
Minneapolis, MN – The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute is preparing for its annual fundraising gala, set to take place today: May 6, 2024. The event, popularly known as the Met Gala, will feature imaginative fashion inspired by the theme “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
Vogue will be providing live coverage of the red carpet starting at 6 pm ET, allowing viewers to witness the extravagant outfits firsthand. The Met Gala, which originated in the 1940s, has grown to become one of the most significant events in the fashion world.
Each year, the gala’s theme is inspired by the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition. This year’s dress code, “The Garden of Time,” draws its name from a 1962 short story by JG Ballard, which tells the tale of a wealthy couple who use magical flowers to slow down time and prevent a working-class uprising from reaching their mansion.
As per tradition, Anna Wintour, Vogue’s editor-in-chief and the event’s organizer since the 1990s, will be joined by four co-chairs: Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, and Zendaya. The star-studded event is expected to attract over 400 of the most influential figures from various fields, including entertainment and pop culture.
Ok, that’s great and everything, but let’s be honest: it’s been happening since the 1940s and it’s gotten pretty boring! So, we here at JackAndKitty.com are suggesting a bold new plan for future Met Galas: Move to the Midwest. It is the BEST, after all! Here’s the reason this works…

🌽 Midwestern Glitz and Glamour
Imagine this, folks: The Met Gala, but with a Midwestern twist! Instead of the fancy-schmancy Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City (boring!), picture the red carpet rolled out in the middle of a cornfield in Iowa. Yep, you heard that right – the biggest night in fashion has come to the Heartland! Isn’t that something you’d watch?

🐮 Celebs Swap Stilettos for Red Wing Boots
And forget about those sky-high heels and weird, designer gowns! Imagine your favorite celebs showing up rocking their best Red Wing boots and denim overalls. Heck, even Anna Wintour could trade in her signature bob for a John Deere trucker hat. Talk about finally making a fashion statement!

🧀 Cheesehead Couture
Celebs could rock the Wisconsin look. How happy would you be if cheeseheads were the hottest accessory of the night, with celebrities like Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence sporting the iconic yellow wedges? Who needs a tiara when you’ve got a crown of cheddar?
🌭 Haute Dogs and Tater Tot Canapés
Forget about caviar and champagne – the Midwest Met Gala would serve up a gourmet spread of cheese curds, hot dogs, tater tot hot dish, and beer cheese dip. Guests could munch on miniature corn dogs while sipping on ice-cold cans of Schell’s. It’s not a party without some down-home cookin’! Plus, how about giving celebs some lutefisk in their swag bags? I bet they’d love it!

🌾 “The Garden of Time” Gets a Midwestern Makeover
Even this year’s theme, “The Garden of Time,” could take on a whole new meaning in the heartland. Instead of magical flowers, guests could be greeted by a sea of swaying corn stalks and a tractor parked at the entrance. Who needs a fancy estate when you’ve got acres of farmland?

🎉 A Night to Remember
As the sun sets over the cornfields, the Midwest Met Gala would come to a close. Guests would have kicked off their boots and danced the night away to the homespun tunes of polka music. It may not have been the most glamorous event in history, but it sure was a hoot and a half! Plus, ratings would be through the roof! The Midwest proves that you don’t need glitz and glam to have a good time – just some good friends, good food, and a whole lot of heart.
