ST. PAUL, MN – As the countdown to Election Day ticks away, a striking trend is emerging among America’s wealthy elite: many are contemplating a move abroad, irrespective of the election’s outcome. This growing sentiment reflects not just political preferences, but a broader desire for stability and a better quality of life.

Survey Insights

A recent survey conducted by Arton Capital surveyed over 1,000 millionaires and uncovered that while a majority back Vice President Kamala Harris, with 52% favoring her compared to 42% for former President Donald Trump, a significant 53% of respondents plan to leave the United States after the election. The impending election is igniting fears about the economic landscape, prompting wealthy individuals to seek alternatives beyond American shores.

Interestingly, perceptions about life overseas differ based on political allegiance. Forty percent of millionaires believe that life would improve under a Harris presidency, while 35% feel the same regarding a Trump administration. Despite their political leanings, half of all millionaires express concerns about potential economic challenges that could arise, regardless of who wins.

Motivations for Relocation

The survey highlights a notable trend among younger millionaires, with 42% expressing interest in golden visas—programs that offer residency or citizenship in exchange for economic investment. This interest is even more pronounced among those aged 18 to 29, with 64% considering such options.

The findings underscore a shift in mindset, as many see these opportunities as a safeguard against the political division and instability prevalent in the U.S.

Preferred Destinations

Canada emerges as the top destination for those contemplating relocation, followed closely by Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. However, the U.K. is also experiencing its own exodus of wealthy individuals, indicating a global pattern of affluent citizens seeking safer havens.

Armand Arton, the founder of Arton Capital, emphasizes that the increasing demand for alternative residencies and citizenships stems from a world marked by political turmoil. The current climate of instability, seen in elections across the U.S., U.K., and France, is prompting many to explore how beneficial additional citizenship or residency can be.

As the election approaches, the motivations driving wealthy Americans to consider life abroad reveal deeper anxieties about the future. This trend could have significant implications for the U.S., highlighting the urgent need for stability and unity in a divided nation.
