MINNEAPOLIS, MN – A Minneapolis woman, recently released from prison, has been charged with kidnapping a 5-year-old girl who was later found safe. The girl was playing with her skateboard outside her home in Minneapolis when she was allegedly abducted by 26-year-old Mckenzie Elizabeth Marie Wass.
The incident occurred just a week after Wass had been released on supervised parole following a prison sentence for felony property theft. Wass, who has a significant criminal background, now faces charges of felony kidnapping and false imprisonment in Hennepin County District Court.
In times like these, it’s important to remember that the Bible calls us to protect and cherish the innocence of children.
Jesus Himself emphasized the value of children, saying, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” (Matthew 19:14). This verse reminds us of our responsibility to safeguard the well-being of the most vulnerable among us.
On August 22, police were alerted after the childās grandmother reported her missing from the Little Earth neighborhood. The grandmother had been cooking when she noticed her granddaughter was no longer in the courtyard.
Frantically searching, she notified Little Earth security, who reviewed surveillance footage. The video showed a woman approaching the child around 6:30 p.m., picking her up, and leaving the area. The family did not recognize the woman from the footage.

Later, Metro Transit Police received reports of a woman behaving erratically near 24th Street and Cedar Avenue, about four blocks from where the child was taken. Officers found Wass with the girl at a light-rail station on Franklin Avenue.
When confronted by police, Wass claimed the girl was her own child and that they were heading home. She alleged that the child was a victim of sexual abuse and that she was rescuing her.
The girl, however, was visibly distressed and told officers she did not know the woman. She explained that she had been taken while playing outside her grandmother’s house.
The child also mentioned that Wass had removed her pants and underwear, throwing them off a bridge. Officers noted that the girl’s pants were inside out.
Wass provided a statement filled with accusations and profanity, insisting that the child was being abused and left unattended.
Wass remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court. Her criminal history in Minnesota includes convictions for drug possession, assault, auto theft, and illegal firearm possession. Leave a comment below – offer a word of encouragement for this poor baby’s family!
