Lue Chang, 32, of Brooklyn Park, now faces second-degree murder charges for allegedly shooting his relative, 34-year-old Nichanon Kittikroekphon of Coon Rapids. The incident occurred on the 8000 block of Adair Avenue North during a family party attended by about 30 people, including numerous children.
According to witnesses, the gathering was meant to celebrate recent births in the family. However, tensions apparently simmered beneath the surface. Surveillance footage reportedly shows a brief conversation between Chang and Kittikroekphon moments before the shooting. While Chang appeared “somewhat upset,” there was no physical altercation, and Kittikroekphon was unarmed and standing still.
Chilling Words Precede Deadly Attack
Witnesses report hearing Chang declare, “Today you’re going to die,” before drawing a handgun and firing multiple shots at Kittikroekphon. Shockingly, a toddler was standing just a foot away from the victim when the shots were fired.
Family members quickly subdued Chang, holding him until police arrived at the scene around 6:30 p.m. When questioned about his motive, Chang allegedly told a witness, “Because he disrespected me.”
