Matthew Scott Brenneman, 40, received a 285-month prison term in Hennepin County court on Friday. He had previously confessed to second-degree murder while under a restraining order, following the death of 33-year-old Danicka Bergeson.
Bergeson was remembered for her service as a field medic in the U.S. military and her degree in animal science from the University of Minnesota.
Bergeson was found deceased in her Hopkins apartment on July 8, 2023. She was discovered wrapped in several blankets, a garbage bag, and a thick comforter, according to charging documents.
In the face of such tragedies, it’s important to find solace in our faith. Remember 1 Peter 5:7, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” God is a source of comfort and strength in times of grief and loss. May we seek His peace and extend our support to those in need.
A few days before her murder, Brenneman had been released from jail, where he was being held on multiple charges of domestic violence, including assault, biting, choking, and making death threats against Bergeson.
