Iconic Concert Venues
While the Xcel Energy Center is the go-to spot for big-name concerts, St. Paul has plenty of smaller spaces that offer an unforgettable experience. The Palace Theatre, which reopened in 2017 after being closed for 40 years, has quickly become a favorite among music fans and artists alike. It’s the perfect place to catch a show and soak up the city’s rich musical history.

If you’re looking for a more intimate setting, head over to the Turf Club on University Avenue. Be sure to visit Ax-Man Surplus before you go! It’s just down the street and totally wild. The Turf Club is known for showcasing up-and-coming talent before they hit the big time, but you might just catch a surprise performance from a big name every now and then. And if you’re in the mood for some Dutch frites with your music, Amsterdam Bar and Hall is the place to be. They host everything from live music to podcast tapings and even drinking spelling bees!
For a no-frills, all-about-the-music experience, check out the Minnesota Music Cafe near Payne Avenue. It may not be the fanciest spot in town, but the stage, sound, and dance floor are what really matter. And if you’re a fan of the blues, you won’t want to miss the legendary Blues Saloon’s weekly “Greatest Jam on Earth” session on Tuesday nights.

It’s such a fun place! And for a touch of elegance, check out Papa Legba Lounge on Cesar Chavez Street. Inspired by music greats like Prince, Aretha Franklin, and James Brown, this lounge is the perfect place to unwind with some smooth jazz or soul.
Last but not least, don’t miss the Rok Music Lounge + Bar at the Schmidt Rathskeller on West 7th Street. With nightly live music performances, craft cocktails, and late-night bar service, it’s the perfect spot to end your musical adventure in St. Paul.
