ST. PAUL, MN – A violent series of events in Minnesota unfolded Tuesday, beginning in Minneapolis and ending nearly 90 miles away in Kandiyohi County. A 55-year-old man from New London lost his life, and another person was injured in a chaotic shooting spree that spanned multiple locations. Authorities have confirmed that the suspect is now in custody, facing a range of serious charges, including murder.

The Crime Spree Begins in Minneapolis

The incident began around 12:30 p.m. in the 2900 block of Lyndale Avenue South, where Minneapolis police responded to reports of gunfire. The suspect, a 25-year-old man, opened fire from an apartment balcony. The intended targets were the suspect’s ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend, who were in the driveway at the time. Fortunately, both escaped without injury.

The shooter fled the scene, prompting a manhunt as crisis negotiators attempted to communicate with him during his escape.

Tragic Carjacking on Highway 71

The suspect’s violent spree escalated on Highway 71 when he attempted to hijack a vehicle. During this carjacking attempt, he shot and killed Jerome Skluzacek, 55, of New London. Authorities apprehended the suspect shortly afterward along the highway. He is now in the Kandiyohi County Jail, awaiting formal charges, including murder.

Second Victim Shot but Expected to Survive

Before his arrest, the suspect stopped at a rural residence in Kandiyohi County, where he shot another 25-year-old man from Lake Lillian. According to officials, the victim sustained injuries but is currently stable and expected to recover.

Community Praises Law Enforcement’s Actions

Local officials commended the officers who pursued and arrested the suspect, recognizing the dangers they faced in bringing the situation under control. Authorities have encouraged the public to keep the victims and their families in mind during this difficult time, asking for privacy and support.

The suspect now faces multiple charges in connection with the shootings.
