For those unfamiliar, the Spelling Bee is a competition where students spell words out loud, showcasing their knowledge and quick thinking.

It’s a big deal because it not only tests spelling skills but also helps with vocabulary and public speaking. Plus, it’s a fun way for students to compete and learn.

Roberto clinched his victory in the Southeast Minnesota Spelling Bee, which saw 12 spellers battle it out. These spellers were the best of the best, chosen from 57 students across 32 districts. In the end, it was the word “discomfiture,” which means a feeling of unease or embarrassment, that secured Roberto’s win.

Now, he’s gearing up for the National Spelling Bee, set to take place from May 27-30, 2024. Let’s cheer him on as he represents Rochester on the national stage!
