EAGAN, MN — The body of a 17-year-old boy from Eagan, Minnesota, was recovered from Lake Michigan after a swimming incident on Tuesday afternoon. The teenager had been swimming off the coast of Beverly Shores, Indiana, when he disappeared under the water during dangerous conditions.

Search and Rescue Efforts Initiated
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) confirmed that search teams located the teen’s body near Beverly Shores. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. when emergency responders were alerted to swimmers in distress off the shore.
Upon arrival, they discovered two swimmers and a good Samaritan onshore who required medical attention. All three were transported to a local hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
Dangerous Waves Hinder Rescue Efforts
Survivors of the incident reported that the missing teen was last seen approximately 300 feet from the shore. Despite attempts to rescue him, the rescue teams faced treacherous conditions, with waves reaching heights of six to nine feet.
The conditions were deemed too dangerous, preventing the teams from entering the lake to continue the search.
Search Teams Return to Recover Body
A coordinated search effort involving the United States Coast Guard, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, and the use of overhead drones was launched from the shore.
Despite these efforts, the teen was not immediately found. Search and rescue teams resumed their efforts Thursday morning, ultimately recovering the boy’s body.

Beverly Shores is a small community located about 55 miles southeast of Chicago. The area, while known for its scenic beauty, can also pose risks due to unpredictable water conditions in Lake Michigan.
