Williams, Minnesota – Despite a toasty start to winter, Minnesota‘s beloved winter traditions are back in action! Brace yourselves for the famous igloo-shaped ice bar, a unique winter wonder you won’t want to miss.
This cool hangout spot has been making waves on social media, thanks to its quirky charm. Imagine sipping your drink, munching on snacks, and watching TV, all while staying warm inside an ice bar! Plus, they even have live musicians serenading you. Oh, and did we mention you can go ice fishing right there? Yes, you read that correctly! The bar boasts holes around the perimeter with rattle reels, so you can have a blast fishing while enjoying your time inside.
Located on Lake of the Woods, this one-of-a-kind gem, aptly named “The Igloo,” is brought to life by the fantastic folks at Zippel Bay Resort. During the off-season, they carefully store the structure and assemble it when the ice conditions are just right.
And here’s the exciting news: The famous ice bar has thrown its doors open for the 2024 winter season! Starting from January 20, you can swing by any Tuesday through Sunday between noon and 10 pm (as long as the ice cooperates). The address is: 6080 39th St. NW, Williams, MN 56686.
But before you rush out to experience this icy delight, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. Firstly, the resort charges a small fee for using their ice roads, whether you’re headed for some ice fishing action or just chilling at the bar. It helps cover the costs of maintaining these ice roads, which can be quite a challenge. Mother Nature can be unpredictable, but the resort’s team works tirelessly to keep the roads wide and well-marked. Still, weather conditions keep them on their toes.

Secondly, remember that the ice bar isn’t just a stone’s throw away. It’s often around a mile out onto the frozen lake. While the roads are well-maintained, it’s better suited for vehicles that can handle snowy and icy conditions. So, bring your trusty snowmobile or a sturdy ride for a safe and fun adventure!
So, if you’re up for some frosty fun and a taste of Minnesota’s unique winter scene, don’t miss out on ‘The Igloo’ ice bar. It’s a chilly treat you won’t soon forget!
