Harper Woods, Michigan – In a story that seems straight out of a Hollywood movie, a little terrier mix named Mishka has been reunited with her family after an incredible journey that spanned over 2,000 miles and several months. The adorable pooch had gone missing from her home in San Diego, California, back in July, leaving her owners, Mehrad Houman and his wife Elizabeth, heartbroken and desperate to find her.

A Never-Ending Search

Elizabeth refused to give up on her beloved pet. She put up over a thousand flyers all around town, had a flyer on her back windshield, and even wore Mishka’s leash whenever she went out to look for her. It was an emotional and exhausting search, but the Houmans never lost hope.

A Miraculous Discovery in Michigan

Fast forward to last week, when police in Harper Woods, Michigan, received a call about a stray dog. They picked up the little terrier mix and contacted the Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society. The animal welfare group quickly discovered that the dog had an identity chip implanted in her, which contained information about her owners. To everyone’s amazement, the chip revealed that the dog was none other than Mishka, the missing pooch from California!

A Journey Across the Country

When the call came in, Mehrad Houman and his family were planning to travel to Minnesota. Mehrad landed there and then drove an incredible 10 hours to Michigan for a tear-filled reunion with Mishka. The Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society shared pictures and video of the heartwarming moment on their Facebook page here, calling it a tale that Hollywood would love to tell.

The Mystery of Mishka’s Journey

How did Mishka end up in Michigan, over 2,000 miles away from her home in California? The Houmans believe that she may have been stolen from Mehrad’s workplace, an auto garage, and then sold and somehow ended up in Michigan. Corinne Martin, director of the animal welfare group, agrees that it’s a possibility.

A Happy Ending

Before Mishka could make the long journey back home to California, she needed a check-up. Veterinarian Nancy Pillsbury examined the 3-year-old dog, gave her a rabies shot, and cleared her to travel. Dr. Pillsbury noted that Mishka was clean, well-fed, and had clearly been taken good care of by whoever had her. The veterinarian mused that how Mishka got to Michigan was a story only the dog herself knew.

As Mishka settles back into her home in San Diego, the Houmans are overjoyed to have their furry family member back. Elizabeth’s perseverance and unwavering hope paid off, and Mishka’s incredible journey has touched the hearts of people across the country. It’s a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there’s always a glimmer of hope, and sometimes, miracles do happen!
