ANDERSON, CA — After nearly a year of silence, police have finally revealed the grim truth about what happened to missing California mom Nikki Cheng Saelee-McCain. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday that the missing persons case has transformed into a homicide investigation, shattering any remaining hopes of finding the mother alive. Saelee-McCain disappeared on May 18, 2024, just days after confiding in loved ones about her plans to end her marriage.
A History of Violence
Before she vanished, Saelee-McCain had accused her husband, Tyler McCain, of tying her up and brutally beating her for three hours inside their home. He was facing felony domestic violence charges at the time.
Her sister, Chloe Saelee, reported that police had repeatedly responded to domestic disturbances at the couple’s residence, with incidents escalating since the pandemic began.
New Life Cut Short
According to her sister, Saelee-McCain had been eagerly planning her escape. She browsed furniture for a new home and expressed determination to gain custody of her children through divorce proceedings.
She had also warned family members that her husband had threatened her life.
Breaking His Silence
Tyler McCain recently spoke publicly for the first time since his wife’s disappearance.
In an interview on March 10, he expressed remorse to his children and both families for his handling of the situation.
The domestic violence charges against him were dropped following his wife’s disappearance. McCain had maintained his innocence, suggesting his wife’s injuries came from an altercation with another person.
The Investigation Intensifies
Law enforcement, including FBI and Homeland Security agents, executed a new search warrant at Saelee-McCain’s last known address on Olinda Road in Anderson.
