GRAND JUNCTION, CO – A routine pickup of a free freezer in January took a horrifying turn when human remains were found inside, authorities revealed. DNA testing has confirmed that the head and hands belong to Amanda Leariel Overstreet, a 16-year-old girl who went missing in 2005 and was never reported missing.

A Disturbing Find in Grand Junction

On January 12, 2024, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a “suspicious incident” at a residence on the 2900 block of Pinyon Avenue. The newly sold home had undergone remodeling and the owner offered the old freezer to anyone willing to take it. But inside the appliance, the person collecting it discovered the severed head and hands of a human, triggering an immediate investigation.

DNA Results Confirm Amanda Leariel Overstreet as the Victim

The sheriff’s office shared the results on October 11, identifying the remains through DNA testing as Amanda Leariel Overstreet. Amanda was last seen in April 2005 when she was approximately 16 years old. Authorities disclosed that she was the biological daughter of the former owner of the home, though no missing persons report was ever filed for her disappearance.

Investigation into the Mystery Continues

The discovery has left investigators with many unanswered questions. How Amanda’s remains ended up in the freezer and why she was never reported missing remain under active investigation. Officials have not released further details about the timeline or potential suspects.

Sheriff’s Office Issues Warning to the Public

As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement is cautioning the public to avoid the home. “The house was purchased, fully remodeled, and sold to the current owner,” the sheriff’s office stated. They urged residents to respect the privacy of the new homeowners and neighbors by refraining from driving by or photographing the property.
