Brace Yourself: Mosquitoes And Ticks Set To Invade The Midwest Earlier Than Ever!
Get ready to break out the bug spray early this year! ๐ฆ A warmer winter could mean more mosquitoes and ticks crashing your outdoor parties. ๐ฑ #BugAlert #SummerReady #DontLetTheBugsBite
Winona, Minnesota – Get ready to stock up on bug spray, folks! Thanks to a warmer winter, those pesky mosquitoes, boxelder bugs, and ticks might be crashing your outdoor parties way ahead of schedule this year. ๐ซ
Winter? What Winter?
You see, the ground didn’t even have the courtesy to freeze over the winter, which means these tiny troublemakers could be out and about almost two months earlier than usual. Iowa State Insect Diagnostician Zach Shumm has already received a few samples in the clinic, which is pretty unusual for this time of year. ๐ฒ
More Bugs, More Problems?
Now, you might be thinking, “Warmer weather equals more bugs, right?” Well, Shumm says it’s not that simple. While warmer temperatures could mean more bugs survive, the lack of rainfall due to widespread drought could actually put a damper on mosquito populations. ๐
Don’t Let the Bugs Bite!
But hey, don’t let the fear of a few bugs keep you from enjoying the great outdoors! Shumm says a little bug spray should do the trick in keeping those bites at bay. And even if you do get bitten, the chances of contracting a disease like Lyme’s are pretty slim. Plus, even if you do, it’s highly treatable. ๐
Better Safe Than Sorry
So, while it’s hard to predict exactly how many bugs we’ll be dealing with this year, it’s always better to be prepared. Stock up on that bug spray, keep an eye out for those creepy crawlies, and most importantly, don’t let them ruin your summer fun! ๐๐ถ๏ธ
