Ross Castle – Killarney, Ireland
Sabina, the daughter of an English lord known as the Black Baron, fell in love with Orwin, the son of her father’s enemy. Their love story ended tragically when a storm capsized their boat, and Orwin drowned. In her grief, Sabina locked herself in the castle and refused to eat or drink until she perished.
Today, guests report hearing strange banging noises at night and seeing ghostly figures, including Sabina and the Black Baron, roaming the grounds or appearing in photographs.
The Stanley Hotel – Estes Park, Colorado, USA
The Stanley Hotel inspired Stephen King’s The Shining and has been the site of eerie encounters ever since. In 1911, a gas leak in Room 217 led to an explosion when chief maid Elizabeth Wilson entered with a lit candle. Though she survived, many believe her spirit returned after her death.
Guests report belongings being mysteriously unpacked and catching glimpses of Flora Stanley playing the piano or F.O. Stanley overseeing a game of billiards.
Hotel del Salto – San Antonio del Tequendama, Colombia
Perched on a cliff overlooking the Tequendama Falls, this former luxury hotel has seen tragedy over the years. It’s said that countless people leapt from the falls to escape their troubles — and some never left.
The indigenous Muisca believed the falls would transform them into eagles, allowing them to escape the Spanish conquistadors. Even today, visitors hear disembodied voices speaking in the ancient Chibcha language. Now a museum, the building still carries the weight of its haunted past.
Russell Hotel – Sydney, Australia
The Russell Hotel sits in one of Sydney’s oldest neighborhoods, The Rocks. During the colonial era, a sailor is said to have stayed here and never returned to sea.
Today, guests—especially women—report eerie encounters with this spirit, most often in Room 8. Despite the hotel’s charm, his presence has made it infamous among thrill-seeking visitors.
Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel – Los Angeles, USA
Hollywood’s glamorous past lives on at the Roosevelt Hotel, but not just through its décor. Guests claim to have seen Marilyn Monroe’s reflection in a full-length mirror in Suite 1200, where she frequently stayed.
Other celebrities, including Errol Flynn and Montgomery Clift, are said to haunt the hotel as well, leaving their ghostly mark with strange phone malfunctions and unexplained knocking on doors.
Dragsholm Castle – Hørve, Denmark
This Danish castle carries centuries of haunting stories. James Hepburn, the Earl of Bothwell, was imprisoned here in the mid-1500s. Driven mad by isolation, he was tied to a pillar and left to die. Today, his spirit is said to ride horseback through the castle grounds.
He is accompanied by the White Lady, a woman whose skeleton was discovered walled up during a 1930s renovation. Guests say they’ve seen her ghost wandering the halls in her white dress.
Nottingham Road Hotel – Kwazulu Natal, South Africa
Charlotte, a sex worker from the early 1900s, reportedly met a tragic end at the Nottingham Road Hotel. Heartbroken after a British soldier abandoned her or died in battle, Charlotte leapt from the balcony of Room 10.
Her spirit still lingers, rearranging flowers, folding guests’ clothes, and adjusting mirrors. Visitors often report her presence, especially those staying in Room 10.
The Langham – London, UK
The Langham, a 19th-century hotel, is said to be one of London’s most haunted buildings. Room 333 is notorious for paranormal activity, including sightings of a Victorian doctor who allegedly killed his wife and himself during their honeymoon.
Guests have also reported seeing a shoeless butler, a German prince in military attire, and even Napoleon III. These eerie encounters make the Langham a destination for ghost hunters.
Hotel Chelsea – New York City, USA
This historic hotel has long attracted artists and bohemians, but some never left. Welsh poet Dylan Thomas fell into a coma in Room 206 and later died, and his spirit is said to linger there. Sid Vicious, bassist for the Sex Pistols, was charged with killing his girlfriend Nancy Spungen in Room 100.
Since his death, guests have reported seeing him riding the elevator or wandering the halls. Another spirit, Mary, a Titanic widow, is sometimes spotted grooming herself in front of mirrors.
The Bell Hotel – Norfolk, UK
This 600-year-old inn is anything but ordinary. The ghost of Betty Radcliffe, a landlady murdered by her lover, is said to haunt Room 10, along with a hooded monk.
Guests sometimes report catching the scent of an unexplained perfume or seeing shadowy figures lurking in corners. Over the centuries, The Bell has gained a reputation as one of Norfolk’s most haunted spots.
