RICHMOND, VA – In a disturbing development, police have arrested a woman in connection with a series of unexplained fractures discovered in newborns at a Virginia hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The investigation, which first surfaced in late 2024, has drawn widespread attention due to the serious charges involved and the involvement of multiple babies over an extended period.

Investigation into NICU Fractures

The troubling situation began in December 2024 when Henrico Doctors’ Hospital in Richmond suspended admissions to its NICU after three babies were found with “unexplainable fractures.”

This raised alarms, echoing a similar case in the summer of 2023 when four infants were found with similar injuries. To assist in the investigation, the hospital provided surveillance footage to law enforcement and enlisted healthcare professionals to analyze the videos.

As part of its efforts to ensure the safety of all infants in the NICU, the hospital introduced an “observer system.” This system mandated that each healthcare provider working in the NICU be accompanied by another clinician as a precautionary measure.

Broader Investigation and Call for Tips

Authorities are not only focused on the December 2024 case but are also revisiting the incidents from 2023, which have now been reopened as part of the broader investigation. Police continue to review extensive surveillance footage from inside the NICU, with detectives combing through “hundreds of hours of footage” in search of further evidence.

In an effort to gather additional information, police have called on the public to come forward with any relevant tips. They have also encouraged individuals to submit anonymous information to aid the ongoing investigation.

This case remains under active investigation as authorities continue their work, and the public’s cooperation is seen as vital in uncovering the full extent of what occurred in the NICU.
