KANSAS CITY, MO – Authorities announced that Jordan Willis and Ivory J. Carson face charges linked to the deaths of three Kansas City Chiefs fans. The two men have been charged with three counts of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of delivery of a controlled substance. The victims, identified as Ricky Johnson, 38, Clayton McGeeney, 36, and David Harrington, 37, were found dead in the backyard of a Kansas City, Missouri home in January 2024.

The incident began on January 7, 2024, when the three men arrived at Willis’ residence to watch the Chiefs’ final regular season game of the year. Over the next 48 hours, they ceased all communication, raising alarm among their loved ones. On Tuesday, January 9, 2024, a woman searching for her fiancé, Clayton McGeeney, contacted Kansas City police after spotting a dead body at the property. She had knocked on the door, but Willis did not initially respond.

When police arrived, Willis opened the door and allowed officers inside. Their investigation revealed not one, but three bodies in the backyard. The low temperature that Sunday night, January 7, had dipped to around 33 degrees Fahrenheit. Willis told authorities that his friends likely succumbed to the cold as temperatures fell.

Investigation Reveals Drugs in Victims’ Systems

Preliminary autopsy and toxicology reports provided key details about the deaths. All three men had cocaine and fentanyl in their systems at the time of death. While the initial investigation in January 2024 did not lead to immediate charges, prosecutors have now moved forward with the case against Willis and Carson.

The woman who alerted police found the situation dire after Willis failed to answer her knocks. Once authorities entered, the full scope of the tragedy came to light. Willis cooperated with the police throughout their investigation, according to official statements.

Family and Defense Respond

Jennifer Marquez, the mother of David Harrington, expressed her belief that Willis bears responsibility for the incident. She noted that the gathering took place at his home, where he hosted the group.

Meanwhile, John Picerno, Willis’ attorney, defended his client, emphasizing that Willis had no role in harming his longtime friends. Picerno explained that Willis typically uses the front door and had no reason to check the backyard, adding that Willis was unaware of the men’s presence there. He further stated that Willis would have contacted police and offered aid if he had known his friends were in peril.

The case has drawn attention as it moves forward, with the charges against Willis and Carson marking a significant development in the investigation that began over a year ago.
