NORTH BEND, OR – The search for missing photographer Joseph C. Neill came to a heartbreaking conclusion this weekend when his body was found on an Oregon beach. Nearly a month after he vanished, the discovery marked the end of a desperate search that began on December 15.
Search Efforts and Discovery
On Sunday morning, a report from the Clausen Oysters farm on North Bay Road led authorities to the lifeless body of Neill, found on the beach of Haynes Inlet. The discovery was made at around 9:25 a.m. during the outgoing tide, east of the Highway 101 bridge.
Deputies quickly responded to the scene, with the help of staff from the nearby Clausen Oysters farm, who provided their boat to assist in recovering the body. After identifying the remains, it was confirmed that it was Joseph C. Neill.
Background on the Disappearance
Neill, a passionate photographer, had been missing since December 15 when he left his home to photograph the king tides along the Oregon coast.
The following day, his vehicle was discovered abandoned on Transpacific Parkway, not far from Jordan Point. Personal items belonging to Neill were found near the railroad bridge spanning Coos Bay at Jordan Point.
Authorities believe Neill may have entered the water from this bridge, though it remains unclear whether he fell or deliberately jumped.
Official Statements and Conclusion
While the exact cause of Neill’s death has not been determined, the circumstances surrounding his disappearance have left many questions unanswered.
The Coos County Sheriff’s Office expressed their deepest sympathies to Neill’s family, stating, “The staff at Coos County Sheriff’s Office extends our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Mr. Neill during this difficult time.”
During moments like these, it’s important to turn to comforting words. As the Bible says in Psalm 34:18: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Neill’s loved ones are left with grief, but the community rallies around them, honoring his memory. May they find peace in the support of those who stand with them during this incredibly difficult time.
