ATLANTA, GA – RMS Titanic, Inc., the official steward of the Titanic’s remains, has shared new images from their 2024 expedition. These findings reveal both the recovery of a historical artifact and significant damage to the ship’s iconic bow.
One of the major discoveries from this mission was the reappearance of the “Diana of Versailles” statue, last seen in 1986. The statue, which had been presumed lost due to the conditions at the wreck site, was rediscovered with the help of advanced imaging technology.
This new image adds a valuable piece to the Titanic’s historical narrative. The successful identification of the statue was due in part to the efforts of researcher James Penca and the expedition’s data team.
On the downside, the expedition also revealed substantial decay at the bow of the Titanic. A large section of the railing on the port side has collapsed, permanently altering the well-known image of the ship’s bow that has become a symbol of the Titanic in the public’s imagination.

The company expressed that, while the rediscovery of the statue was exciting, the loss of the bow’s iconic railing serves as a reminder of how vulnerable the site is. This further emphasizes the importance of their continued preservation work.
During the 20-day expedition, the team utilized state-of-the-art technology, including LiDAR, sonar, and hyper-magnetometers, to capture over 2 million high-resolution images and create a full map of the wreck and debris field.
This data is now being processed to gain a deeper understanding of the ship’s ongoing deterioration and to pinpoint valuable artifacts that could be recovered in future missions.
RMS Titanic, Inc. worked with multiple partners, including C-Innovation, Marine Imaging Technologies, and TITANIC: HONOR and GLORY, to accomplish the mission.
The company’s ongoing efforts not only focus on preserving the Titanic’s legacy but also on educating the public through exhibitions in Orlando, Las Vegas, and touring locations worldwide, where these latest discoveries will be on display.
RMS Titanic, Inc. continues its commitment to documenting and preserving the site, ensuring that the Titanic’s story remains alive for future generations.
