Celebratory Gunfire Kills Young Girl
This is NewsChat: your source for the Truth in today’s news. Today is Friday, January 3, 2025 and I’m your host Jack Norton from JackAndKitty.com.
A tragic New Year’s Eve celebration turned deadly in Miami, Florida, when 10-year-old Yaneliz Munguia was struck and killed by celebratory gunfire shortly after midnight.
The shooting occurred in the area of NW 27th Avenue and NW 21st Street, as people rang in the new year with fireworks and cheers.
Miami-Dade Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying those responsible for the fatal shot and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
Yaneliz’s death has left the community in shock, prompting renewed concern over the dangers of firing guns into the air during celebrations. Police are working quickly to find justice for the young girl and her grieving family.
The tragic loss of 10-year-old Yaneliz Munguia on New Year’s Eve due to celebratory gunfire is a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers of foolish and reckless behavior.
We are called to protect and care for children, who are among the most innocent and vulnerable in our society.
Jesus himself said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these” (Mark 10:14).
This verse reflects God’s deep care for children, and as believers, it’s our duty to ensure they are safe and valued, not just in our homes but also in our communities.
The Bible teaches that we should live with wisdom and self-control, especially when it comes to matters that can affect others.
In Proverbs 14:16, we read, “The wise fear the Lord and shun evil, but a fool is hotheaded and reckless.”
Celebratory gunfire may seem like a moment of excitement or tradition to some, but it is a dangerous and selfish act that risks innocent lives. As we navigate a world full of temptations, we must reject such behavior and encourage others to do the same.
We are called to be wise stewards of the lives God has entrusted to us, and that includes making choices that protect the well-being of everyone, especially children.
Woman Missing for 50 Years Found
And now a story from across the pond. A woman – who vanished in the United Kingdom over 50 years ago – has been found alive, thanks to a grainy photo shared by the West Midlands Police.
Sheila Fox, who disappeared in 1972 at the age of 16, was located in another town, safe and sound. The police shared an old photo of Fox on social media, which led to a flood of tips from the public. Just hours after its release, authorities confirmed her identity, and she is now 68 years old.
Detective Sergeant Jenna Shaw credited the success to modern technology and the public’s assistance, noting that it was crucial to the investigation.
While the case has been resolved, questions still remain about the circumstances surrounding Fox’s disappearance.
While we often hear about the negative effects of social media—spreading misinformation, promoting division—this case shows its potential for good.
When the West Midlands Police shared a decades-old photo of Sheila, it sparked a wave of tips from the public that ultimately led to her safe return.
This is a perfect example of how human creations, even those with the potential for harm, can also be used for good when directed by God’s purpose.
In the Bible, we’re reminded that “everything was created through him and for him” (Colossians 1:16).
This means that all human-made tools—whether it’s social media, technology, or anything else—are ultimately under God’s sovereignty.
While we might misuse them at times, they also offer opportunities for great acts of kindness and justice, like helping to bring home a missing person.
As Christians, we are called to be stewards of everything we’ve been given, using it for God’s glory and the good of others. In Sheila’s case, modern technology has brought healing, and that is something to celebrate.
$40 BILLION Crypto Fraud
Terraform Labs co-founder Do Kwon has been extradited to the U.S. from Montenegro to face charges related to an alleged $40 billion cryptocurrency fraud and money laundering scheme.
Arrested in March 2023 for attempting to use a fraudulent passport, Kwon was brought to the U.S. on December 31, 2024.
Prosecutors allege Kwon misled investors about the stability of TerraUSD, manipulated the market using a high-frequency trading firm, and falsely claimed that Terraform’s products were decentralized and widely used.
Kwon faces charges including securities fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit fraud, with a potential maximum sentence of 130 years in prison.
U.S. Attorney Daniel M. Gitner, FBI Assistant Director James E. Dennehy, and Attorney General Merrick Garland have emphasized the severe impact on global investors and the role of international cooperation in securing Kwon’s extradition.
Now contrary to what Gordon Gekko may have led you to believe, greed isn’t good.
The Bible offers countless warnings about how the love of wealth can lead to destruction.
In 1 Timothy 6:10, we read, “For the love of money is the root of all evil.”
It’s important to realize that this verse doesn’t condemn money itself – after all, God wants you to be rich – but it does caution against placing wealth above righteousness.
Greed blinds people, leading them down a path where they compromise integrity, truth, and faith.
In the case of Do Kwon, his alleged actions show how unchecked greed can result in disaster, not just for the person chasing wealth but for the many who trusted in promises that were never meant to be kept.
Proverbs 15:27 says, “Whoever is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own household.” This speaks directly to how selfish ambition can cause ruin.
Yet, God’s promises of prosperity are different from worldly wealth. True prosperity is not born out of schemes or deception, but through obedience, generosity, and faith.
In Deuteronomy 8:18, it says, “But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth.”
The key is trusting God to bless us in His timing and in ways that benefit not just ourselves but others around us. Lasting wealth comes from aligning with God’s will, not chasing after fleeting riches offered by alleged crypto conmen like Do Kwon.
Thanks for listening to NewsChat – now if the good Lord’s willing and the creek don’t rise, I’ll see you again tomorrow morning. I hope you have a great weekend – the last little bit of freedom before the world returns to work on Monday. Remember, Jesus loves you and you deserve to feel good today! Take care.

Finally, here’s a story from my hometown of Winona, Minnesota. Our police department has been having a hard time lately. Someone actually broke in to their headquarters and robbed the place. Stole everything… why, they even stole the toilets. Now the police have nothing to go on!
