The staggering 148-pound haul was uncovered in a routine follow-up investigation, turning an ordinary construction material into an unlikely drug-smuggling tool.
Routine Check Leads to Major Drug Seizure
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office revealed that on February 12, its drug unit was conducting a follow-up investigation in Pantego, North Carolina.
This probe stemmed from an earlier arrest made by the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force on January 16 in Pitt County.
What started as a standard review quickly turned into a major bust.

A closer look at one of the stones confirmed their fears—it contained 800 grams of crystal methamphetamine embedded within the concrete.
But that was just the beginning.
A Shocking Discovery: 148 Pounds of Meth
Investigators systematically unloaded and inspected the entire shipment. What they found was staggering—84 individual pavers, each containing 800 grams of meth.
In total, authorities seized an incredible 67 kilograms (148 pounds) of the highly addictive drug.
This discovery not only exposed a sophisticated smuggling method but also dealt a heavy blow to the drug trade in the region.
Investigation Expands
The case remains under active investigation, with law enforcement agencies working together to track down those responsible.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is collaborating with the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Raleigh, and other agencies to uncover the full scope of the operation.
