TROUTMAN, NC – A man accused of domestic violence unleashed chaos in North Carolina after allegedly stealing a police car—while his alleged victim remained trapped inside! The shocking incident led to a dangerous, high-speed chase before officers finally took him into custody, authorities confirmed.
Officers Arrive at Domestic Dispute Scene
On Sunday, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance at 130 Skyuka Road.
Deputies found 23-year-old Bradley Gage Johnson at the scene. Johnson had a history of domestic violence involving the same alleged victim, Heaven Jones. Deputies immediately recognized the white Saturn Ion parked outside as belonging to Johnson.
Sergeant J. Smith knew that Johnson was under a court order prohibiting him from contacting Jones due to his pre-trial release conditions.
Upon arrival, officers observed Jones in a distressed state, described as “visibly agitated and aggressively approaching Johnson.”
Jones Temporarily Detained for Scene Control
To maintain control of the chaotic situation, deputies temporarily detained Jones in the back of a patrol car.
Officials explained that this step was necessary to ensure safety and conduct a proper investigation.
Johnson Steals Patrol Vehicle and Flees
As officers tried to question Johnson, he suddenly fled on foot. He then forced his way into the patrol vehicle where Jones was being held and drove off, initiating a police chase.
Deputies pursued Johnson to Rolling Lane in Statesville, where he abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. However, officers quickly apprehended him.
Jones was safely recovered without any injuries.
List of Charges Against Johnson
Johnson now faces numerous charges, including:
- Second-degree kidnapping
- Larceny of a motor vehicle
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- Possession of a stolen firearm
- Possession of a weapon of mass destruction
- Larceny of law enforcement equipment
- Fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle
Additionally, he faces misdemeanor charges such as violating a pre-trial release order, assault on a female, domestic violence crimes, reckless driving to endanger, and various traffic violations.
Investigation and Court Appearance
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation remains active, and more charges could be added. During Johnson’s initial court appearance, his bond was set at $125,000.
