EDINA, MN – The air is already growing crisp in Minnesota, and it’s time for snowbirds to start planning their winter escape. If you’re like me – sitting at the kitchen table with a warm Pumpkin Spice Latte, flipping through travel guides and scouring the web, then this article is for you!

As another Minnesota winter looms, I know I’m not alone dreaming of palm trees swaying in the breeze and the sound of ocean waves crashing on the shore.

The destination I’d like to tell you about today is Palm Coast, Florida. This may be one you’d like to share with your parents or grandparents as it was recently named one of the best places for seniors to visit this winter. Palm Coast has all the perks of Florida without the crowds or sky-high prices.

Palm Coast Tops List of Senior-Friendly Destinations

Palm Coast, Florida, was recently ranked as the best “hidden gem” for retirees looking for a place to unwind. Carewell, a website focused on senior health, evaluated 160 cities across the U.S. to find the most affordable, comfortable, and senior-friendly destinations.

With a population of just under 100,000, Palm Coast stood out for its balance of natural beauty, cost-effective lodging, and an active senior community.

Seniors flock to the city’s golf courses, scenic nature trails, and waterfront parks. Washington Oaks Gardens State Park, a local favorite, offers a peaceful escape with its gardens and oceanfront views. Meanwhile, Palm Harbor Golf Club has become a go-to for those looking to hit the greens and enjoy Florida’s famous sunny weather.

The town’s outdoor appeal is only enhanced by its walkability and safety, making it easy for seniors to navigate. Palm Coast’s dog-friendly beaches also offer an extra perk for travelers who don’t want to leave their furry friends behind.

Why Retirees Are Choosing Palm Coast Over Other Cities

While Palm Coast snagged the top spot, Clifton, New Jersey, and Evanston, Illinois, were close behind in Carewell’s ranking. Clifton attracts visitors with its proximity to New York City and suburban charm, while Evanston boasts stunning views of Lake Michigan and a vibrant cultural scene.

However, for those craving warm weather and outdoor activities, Palm Coast checks all the boxes.

It’s the affordability that truly sets this coastal town apart. With reasonably priced accommodations, plenty of free activities like beach walks, and nature trails, Palm Coast offers the ideal winter getaway for retirees.

This town has all the amenities without the stress of overcrowded tourist hubs, making it a haven for those seeking both relaxation and adventure.

With winter fast approaching, retirees from the Midwest are gearing up for their migration to the Sunshine State. The countdown to a Florida escape is filled with excitement — the promise of gentle waves, sunsets over the Atlantic, and mornings spent playing golf, far from the snow and ice.

Of course, as my hubby goofy Jack just pointed out: “Florida’s great but Minnesota’s tater tot hotdish is better!” Hehe.
