Penguin Zesto has been a Winona, Minnesota staple since 1949, serving up mouthwatering burgers, fries, and ice cream treats that keep customers coming back for more. This locally-owned gem has been satisfying cravings for over 70 years from its original location on the corner of Third and Carimona streets.
My hubby Jack and I call this cute southern Minnesota town home, and there is one thing all locals can agree on: Penguin Zesto rocks! Plus, the prices are so reasonable you might just feel like it’s 1949! Hehe.
No Seating? No Problem!
On a beautiful summer day, you’ll find families, students, and even their furry friends crowding the benches around the barn-shaped building, trying their best not to drip chocolate on their shorts. The lack of inside seating doesn’t deter loyal customers from enjoying their favorite treats.

Expanding to Serve More Customers
Current owner Richard Drazkowski took Penguin Zesto to new heights by opening a second location in Goodview on West Sixth Street in the early 2000s.
This shop caters to workers from the nearby industrial park and other businesses in the area, and it even opens earlier in the year!
What’s in a Name?
The primary location first opened as a drive-up restaurant under a different name. It was known as Zesto for a while, but in 1986, an owner with a love for penguins added the adorable animal to the name, and it’s been Penguin Zesto ever since.
I mean, c’mon my name might by Kitty but even I have to admit – penguins are awesome!! Hehe.
