NEWBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA – A violent outburst over marijuana money has landed a Pennsylvania man behind bars after he allegedly attacked his parents and later assaulted officers during his arrest. Evan Gabriel Houseman, 20, reportedly went into a fit of rage when his mother refused to give him money to buy marijuana, culminating in a violent clash that left his parents hospitalized and law enforcement officers fighting to subdue him.
The Violent Confrontation
The chaotic events unfolded on January 5 at a home on Sam Snead Circle in Newberry Township, Pennsylvania. According to police, Houseman’s father called 911 after his son began assaulting his mother. On the call, dispatchers could hear a struggle in the background, and Houseman allegedly yelled, “shoot me.”
Houseman’s mother told police that the incident began the night before when she declined her son’s request for money to buy marijuana. The refusal sparked an argument that quickly escalated into threats of suicide and physical violence.
She said that the following morning, her son grabbed her head, forced it toward the floor, and placed her in a headlock, warning her that if she didnât give him his medication, he would apply pressure to her neck.
A Destructive Escalation
The situation escalated even further when Housemanâs father intervened. The two reportedly argued, and in the heat of the moment, Houseman allegedly threw a TV and an Xbox down a flight of stairs, damaging both and the surrounding wall.
As his father went downstairs to assess the damage, Houseman allegedly pushed him down the stairs, causing him to hit his head on the garage door.
Housemanâs father retreated outside in an attempt to distance himself from his son. However, Houseman allegedly followed him, shoved him to the ground in the driveway, and put him in a headlock.
The younger Houseman reportedly told his father, “Iâm going to kill you and take you both out.” After releasing his father, Houseman began to damage his fatherâs vehicle with a stick.
The Arrest and Aftermath
Police arrived at the scene and instructed Houseman to put his hands behind his back. When he refused, officers had to use a Taser to bring him into custody. While being arrested, Houseman reportedly kicked officers multiple times âin sensitive areas of our bodies.â
Both parents were taken to the hospital for their injuries, while Houseman was transported for a mental evaluation. He was later booked into York County Prison and faces multiple charges, including assault, strangulation, terroristic threats, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, and harassment. Houseman is scheduled for a court appearance on February 5.
