PERRY, GEORGIA — Perdue Foods LLC, based in Perry, Georgia, has issued a recall for approximately 167,171 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nugget and tender products. The recall is due to potential contamination with foreign materials, specifically metal.
Details of the Affected Products
The products in question were produced on March 23, 2024, and include the following items:
- 22-ounce vacuum-sealed packages of “PERDUE Simply Smart ORGANICS Breaded CHICKEN BREAST NUGGETS” with a “Best If Used By” date of March 23, 2025.
- 29-ounce vacuum-sealed packages of “PERDUE CHICKEN BREAST TENDERS” with a “Best If Used By” date of March 23, 2025.
- 22-ounce vacuum-sealed packages of “BUTCHERBOX Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets” with a “Best If Used By” date of March 23, 2025.
These products bear the establishment number “P-33944” located on the back of the packaging. The recalled items were distributed to retail stores nationwide and sold online directly to consumers.
Discovery of the Issue
The issue was identified after Perdue Foods received consumer complaints regarding metal wire found in the products. The company then alerted the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) about the contamination.
Health and Safety Precautions
To date, there have been no confirmed reports of injuries or adverse reactions associated with the consumption of these products.
However, consumers who have purchased any of the recalled products are advised not to consume them. Instead, the products should be disposed of or returned to the place of purchase.
Ongoing Actions and Consumer Guidance
FSIS is conducting recall effectiveness checks to ensure that Perdue Foods has notified all its customers of the recall and that the products are no longer available for sale. The FSIS will post a list of retail distribution locations on its website once available.
