GULFPORT, MS – A police officer in Mississippi found himself on the receiving end of an unexpected text message, and decided to turn the mix-up into a moment of fun.
The Gulfport Police Department posted a light-hearted exchange on their Facebook page after someone mistakenly messaged an officer with a text meant for a friend. The message was sent just after 10 p.m. local time last week.
Here’s the text exchange…
Person: Yo
Officer: Sup
Person: Wyd (What are you doing?)
Officer: Chillin hbu (How about you?)
Person: Wanna smoke
Officer: Smoke?
Person: I got some fire emoji gas pump emoji
Officer: I don’t think I’ll be able to smoke with you
Person: Bruh we smoke all the time
Officer: I think you have the wrong number
Person: Bruh stop cappin
Officer: sends selfie holding a police badge No cap
In the text, the person mentioned “smoking,” a term often associated with illegal activities. According to Urban Dictionary, “cappin” refers to saying something untrue.
Instead of getting upset, the officer responded with a selfie, but the person on the other end went silent. The department chose not to disclose the person’s number.
The department advised in their Facebook post: “Pro tip: Before you send the text, double-check the number. Nothing like a wrong number text to really spice up someone’s day.”
