GULFPORT, MS – A police officer in Mississippi found himself on the receiving end of an unexpected text message, and decided to turn the mix-up into a moment of fun.

The Gulfport Police Department posted a light-hearted exchange on their Facebook page after someone mistakenly messaged an officer with a text meant for a friend. The message was sent just after 10 p.m. local time last week.

Here’s the text exchange…

Person: Yo

Officer: Sup

Person: Wyd (What are you doing?)

Officer: Chillin hbu (How about you?)

Person: Wanna smoke

Officer: Smoke?

Person: I got some fire emoji gas pump emoji

Officer: I don’t think I’ll be able to smoke with you

Person: Bruh we smoke all the time

Officer: I think you have the wrong number

Person: Bruh stop cappin

Officer: sends selfie holding a police badge No cap

In the text, the person mentioned “smoking,” a term often associated with illegal activities. According to Urban Dictionary, “cappin” refers to saying something untrue.

Instead of getting upset, the officer responded with a selfie, but the person on the other end went silent. The department chose not to disclose the person’s number.

The department advised in their Facebook post: “Pro tip: Before you send the text, double-check the number. Nothing like a wrong number text to really spice up someone’s day.”
