SACRAMENTO, CA – A pilot walked away with only minor injuries after crash-landing a single-engine aircraft at a California golf course on Sunday afternoon, officials said.
The single-engine Piper PA-28R aircraft crashed at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento, just south of Sacramento McClellan Airport, at around 1:15 p.m. Sunday.
According to a preliminary report from the Federal Aviation Administration, the aircraft “experienced engine issues” shortly after taking off from McClellan Airport. The agency said the pilot was the only person on board.
A dramatic video shared on social media shows the aircraft making an emergency crash-landing at the golf course, nearly striking a lone golfer as it skidded past at high speed. The plane came to a stop just outside a building.
Haggin Oaks Golf Complex shared photos of the aftermath on Facebook, and said its restaurant and pro shop would be closed for the rest of the day Sunday “due to clean-up efforts and safety precautions.”
The driving range and other areas remained open.
“Thankfully, no one was harmed, and the damage to the facility is minor,” golf course officials said.
“We are incredibly grateful to the first responders from the fire department and law enforcement for their swift and professional reaction.”
