9. Shop at Treasure City (308 US-10, Royalton, MN 56373): Central Minnesota’s largest gift and souvenir shop. Located on Highway 10, Treasure City has been in business over fifty years and has become a Minnesota icon. Treasure City is the tacky pirate-themed junk store that you never knew you needed in your life. Kids love it. Parents love to hate it. And everyone – I do mean everyone – leaves Treasure City buying something they never knew they needed. Probably because they don’t. This is the sort of old-timey, roadside tourist trap that makes a road trip across America so great. It’s junk. But it’s fun. It’s seen better days, but that just adds to its charm. It’s so not-corporate, so mom-and-pop, so campy and so kitschy.

He can be seen by leaving I-90 at exit #252, and following MN-43 North towards Winona. You’ll see him on the right side of the road just before you hit our little home town.
15. Visit the giant mosquito statue in Komensky and snap a photo with this humorous oversized insect.
16. See the bizarre Telephone Art Wall (3148 Salem Ave, St Louis Park, MN 55416). You won’t find this one in any guidebooks. It’s something only locals know about. Located on the highway noise reduction barrier separating Highway 100 from a cozy suburban neigborhood in St. Louis Park, someone attached a vintage rotary phone…16 feet from the ground. Other retro phones eventually appeared, then some old office fax machines, followed by children’s novelty toy phones. Today the wall is covered with phones and fax machines. No one knows the artist (or artists) behind the mysterious “Telephone Art Wall”, but it’s the sort of quirky thing that makes Minnesota wonderful!
