Winona, Minnesota – Have you ever wanted to be a weather watcher? Here’s your chance! The Minnesota State Climatology Office is on the lookout for volunteers to join the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS).

This nationwide network has over 20,000 volunteers who keep an eye on precipitation right from their backyards using a simple 4-inch rain gauge.

By reporting your findings online, you’ll be part of a crucial team helping to track rainfall, hail, and snow in Minnesota. Your data will be used for all sorts of important things, from managing water resources to issuing storm warnings.

And don’t worry if you’re new to this – everyone is welcome to join, whether you’re young, old, or somewhere in between. All you need is a love for weather and a curiosity about how it impacts our lives.

As a CoCoRaHS volunteer, you’ll measure precipitation whenever a storm passes through your area. Then, you’ll log your findings on the CoCoRaHS website, where they’ll be used by a wide range of people, including meteorologists, farmers, and even your neighbors!

Volunteering with CoCoRaHS is not just about collecting data; it’s about being part of a community that cares about the environment and wants to make a difference. You’ll have the chance to learn new things, meet new friends, and even participate in fun activities like training sessions and photography contests.
