EAGLE PASS, TX — CBP officers in Texas save the day yet again! A 48-year-old Mexican citizen found himself back in handcuffs this week after allegedly attempting to bluff his way through the Eagle Pass International Bridge by claiming U.S. citizenship. The man, who had previously spent over four years behind bars for human smuggling, was stopped during a routine screening on March 17.
From Prison to Fresh Charges
The suspect’s checkered past quickly caught up with him when border officers, suspicious of his citizenship claims, pulled him aside for additional questioning.
Their investigation revealed not only his Mexican nationality and lack of proper entry documents but also his extensive record of immigration violations following his earlier prison sentence.
Eagle-Eyed Officers Make the Catch
Port Director Pete Beattie praised his team’s sharp instincts, noting how their experience and attention to detail led to the man’s apprehension.
The officers’ thorough screening process proved essential in identifying this alleged immigration violation.
Legal Proceedings Underway
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers took the individual into custody and launched a criminal probe into possible immigration law violations.
As with all criminal cases, the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
