ST. PAUL, MN – The other night, I was at my sisters when we noticed something odd. Her cat was staring intently at a corner of the room, hissing at what looked like nothing. We laughed it off at first, but it got us thinking—what if there really was something there?

With Halloween coming up, the idea of catching something spooky on camera felt a little more real. It’s funny how a little imagination can turn an ordinary night into a ghost story waiting to happen.

As it turns out, home security camera company Ring is inviting its customers to search their footage for any signs of paranormal activity. The prize? A whopping $100,000, which can be used for a “not-so-haunted house, ghost-free getaway, or any other earthly expense.”

Ring, well-known for its doorbell cameras, is encouraging users to dig into their video archives for anything spooky—whether it’s authentic ghostly evidence or just some fun footage of friends in costume.

Submissions are open starting at 12 a.m. PT on September 24 and will close at 11:59 p.m. PT on November 1, or after 5,000 entries are received, whichever comes first. Participants can upload their videos at ring.com/ghostsearch.

Spooktacular Judges on Deck!

The contest, dubbed “Ring’s Great Ghost Search,” will feature a panel of judges that includes Finn Wolfhard from “Ghostbusters” and “Stranger Things,” along with paranormal investigator Katrina Weidman. Wolfhard humorously remarked, “If I saw a ghost on my Ring camera, I’d want to move out as fast as possible.”

Judges will evaluate submissions based on several criteria: visibility and clarity of the ghost, uniqueness, entertainment value, and engagement with the audience. The grand prize winner will receive $100,000, which they might want to use to escape a haunted situation.

Mimi Swain, Chief Commercial Officer at Ring, expressed excitement about the initiative, stating, “Every day, we hear from our customers about surprising or unexpected footage captured by their Ring cameras. Now, during Halloween, we’re calling on customers to keep an eye out for any ghostly activity. If they do capture a ghost on camera, we’re going to help them escape their haunted situation.”
