Rochester, Minnesota – Meet Rowan Vercnocke, a 17-year-old junior from John Marshall in Rochester, Minnesota who’s taking the college newspaper by storm with her delightful new comic strip, “Rabbit and Hare.”
From Reader to Creator
Growing up, Rowan devoured classic comics like “Calvin and Hobbes” and “Mutts,” never imagining she’d one day create her own. But when an opportunity arose at the Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) student newspaper, The Echo, she jumped at the chance to bring her own characters to life.
My hubby Jack to some classes at RCTC and also wrote a few articles for The Echo, so this story is especially fun for us.
Inspiration Strikes
Rowan finds inspiration in the funny moments of everyday life, jotting down ideas in her trusty sketchbook. She then brings her sketches to life with vibrant colors on her iPad before seeing them printed in the school paper.
The Power of Art
For Rowan, drawing is more than just a hobby – it’s a way to unwind and let her creativity flow. She explains that the calm focus required for art can be incredibly soothing.
Big Dreams Ahead
With plans to continue developing “Rabbit and Hare” and dreams of a future in animation, Rowan is just getting started on her artistic journey. Keep an eye out for this rising star – she’s sure to make waves in the world of comics and beyond!
