EL CAJON, CA – A California woman who tried to sneak heroin into state prisons by hiding it inside Bibles is now heading to prison herself. Lucresia Stone-Rojas, 46, was sentenced to seven years behind bars on Friday after authorities discovered the drug-stuffed religious books following her arrest on a weapons charge.

Caught in a Stolen Porsche With a Loaded Gun

Stone-Rojas first landed on law enforcement’s radar on November 12, 2023, when a license plate reader flagged a stolen Porsche in El Cajon.

Officers pulled her over and quickly uncovered more than just a hot ride.

Inside the vehicle, they found a loaded 9mm Walther handgun and ammunition, according to the Justice Department.

As a convicted felon, she was prohibited from possessing firearms, leading to federal charges for unlawful gun possession. Surprisingly, she wasn’t charged in connection with the stolen car.

Her trouble didn’t end there.

Just weeks later, on December 27, 2023, federal investigators caught her again—this time for attempting to smuggle heroin into prison.

A search revealed packages and envelopes addressed to inmates in a California state prison. But what was inside left officials stunned.

Hidden within the spines of two Bibles, authorities found 23 grams of heroin, carefully concealed and destined for delivery into two separate state prisons.

Authorities Crack Down on Dangerous Smuggling Schemes

“Smuggling drugs into our prisons endangers both the inmates and the correctional staff. It will not be tolerated,” said acting U.S. Attorney Andrew Haden.

“Hopefully, this case will serve as a warning to anyone who would be willing to abuse the tools of faith and rehabilitation to perpetuate addiction and despair.”

With her sentence now set, Stone-Rojas will spend the next seven years behind bars—which gives her plenty of time to read the Bible.
