U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Texas confiscated methamphetamine valued at over $2.4 million at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility on March 7. The seizure, announced on Wednesday, March 12, involved 268.96 pounds of the narcotic hidden in a shipment of Persian limes.

Tractor Trailer Inspection Leads to Major Bust

The incident began when a commercial tractor trailer entered from Mexico. A CBP officer flagged the vehicle for a detailed check.

Using nonintrusive inspection equipment and a canine team, officers examined the shipment. A physical search revealed 960 packages of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the load, totaling 122 kilograms.

Narcotics and Vehicle Confiscated

The CBP Office of Field Operations took possession of both the drugs and the tractor trailer. The methamphetamine, with a street value of $2,404,300, was seized as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal drug trafficking.

Following the bust, Homeland Security Investigations launched a criminal probe into the matter.
