TACOMA, WA – One suspect is in custody as police investigate a shooting spree that occurred along Interstate 5 in Washington state beginning late Monday night and continuing into early Tuesday.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson, the District 2 public information officer, reported the first two shootings at around 9:27 p.m. Monday. In the first shooting, at northbound I-5 at 320th, Johnson said a passenger was injured. The second shooting took place at northbound I-5 near I-90, and another passenger was injured.
The suspect vehicle in the first two shootings was described as a white Volvo with California plates. A third shooting occurred at northbound I-5 at MLK.
Shortly after 1:30 a.m., Johnson reported an additional two shootings, with the suspect vehicle matching the description of the first two. The shootings took place at southbound I-5 near State Road 18 and at southbound I-5 near 54th in Pierce County.
Johnson said there were injuries in the last two shootings, but no further details were provided by 6:15 a.m. local time.
One suspect was taken into custody by officers with the Fircrest Police Department, who assisted in the pursuit alongside the Tacoma Police Department, the Lakewood Police Department, and the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
Johnson said additional information would be released later Tuesday.
