SWEDEN, ME – A quiet night in Sweden, Maine, turned chaotic late Wednesday when a pickup truck barreled into a two-story house on Lovell Road. The driver, a 52-year-old man from Massachusetts, now fights for his life after the violent collision, which authorities say was fueled by excessive speed. Emergency crews raced to the scene, where the truck had smashed through a wall and brought a brick chimney crashing down.
Crash Details Unfold
The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies, alongside the Sweden Fire Department, arrived just after 11 p.m. following calls about the wreck. A 2020 Ford F-250 lay mangled outside the home, its front end buried in the structure.
The force of the impact toppled the chimney onto the vehicle, leaving a dramatic scene captured in photos released by officials.
Authorities identified the driver as Sean T. Demaggio of Wilmington, Massachusetts.
According to the sheriff’s office, Demaggio “drove through the intersection at a high rate of speed” before losing control and plowing into the residence.
Injuries and Response
Demaggio suffered “severe and life-threatening injuries” in the crash.
Alone in the truck, he was rushed by ambulance to Bridgton Hospital. From there, Life Flight airlifted him to Maine Medical Center in Portland for urgent care.
No one was inside the house at the time, sparing residents from harm in the sudden disaster.
Investigation Underway
The sheriff’s office continues to probe the incident, with speed emerging as a key element in the crash.
Details remain under review as authorities piece together the events that led to this destructive collision in a typically peaceful Maine town.
