You’ve heard of Prince, the movie Fargo, and our funny accents. 👍
But have you also heard about the soda pop that’s uniquely Minnesotan? 🤔 (This isn’t a sponsored ad by the way – we weren’t paid for this. We simply want to feature some of the interesting places, faces and tastes of our home state and love spreading the word about small, family-owned businesses in the Midwest!)
The Fizz-tory of Spring Grove Soda Pop
So, what’s poppin’ here in Minnesota?
It’s Spring Grove Soda Pop, a beverage that’s been tickling taste buds since 1895! If you’re confused about the whole “pop” vs “soda” thing, just know that in Minnesota, it’s all about the “pop.” 🥤
Where the Soda Meets the Soul
Spring Grove is more than just a soda name; it’s a cozy Minnesotan town with a rich history. Founded in the 1850s by Norwegian settlers, this place has its quirks. 😸
From a few unusual statues – a troll, Vikings, and Norwegian-American comic strip characters – to the laundromat with 3,000 teddy bears tacked to the ceiling 🐻, Spring Grove is a colorful, fun town! Jack and I love stopping through here whenever we get the chance.
Ever heard of Uff-Da Fest? Think farmers market meets Norwegian family reunion, with a dash of seasonal autumn fun. 🍂
Carbonated Beginnings
Way back in 1895, in a drug store owned by G.G. Grove, Spring Grove Soda Pop was born.
Folks were so impressed with his soda counter that they wanted to take the drink home. G.G. didn’t miss a beat; he started bottling this liquid joy, and the rest is history. 📜
From Drug Store to Big Time
The soda business was eventually sold and resold but never lost its heart. ❤️
In fact, the same traditional recipes and bottling process from 1895 still exist today. No mass-produced vibes here—just the real, simple goodness of a bygone era. 😋
Family, Trucks, and Rhubarb!
Fast forward to the Hansen family taking over, and they brought some fresh fizz to the scene.
Digitized operations, new bottle designs, and even a restored Model-T truck for style points! Oh, and ever tried a soda that tastes like the Lanesboro Rhubarb Festival? Well, their Rhu-berry flavor does just that. 🍓
A Soda of Many Flavors
If you’re wondering about the other flavors, hold on to your hat! 🎩
There are nine delicious ones, from classic Root Beer to tangy Strawberry, and even the one-and-only Lemon Sour. Every sip feels like a nostalgic journey back to simpler times. 🍋🍇
A Soda Experience Like No Other
If you’re ready for an in-person soda adventure, you’re in luck! 🍀
The factory in Spring Grove offers 45-minute tours where you’ll witness the bottling process. And get this—the soda is so authentic that every bottle is touched by three sets of Norwegian hands! 👍👍👍
So, what are you waiting for? Get yourself to Spring Grove and experience the bubbly magic yourself. Your taste buds will thank you. 🎉
There you have it, folks! Spring Grove Soda Pop—the Minnesotan liquid gem that’s making history, one bubble at a time. Cheers! 🥳
