Insights from Minnesota’s Own Sausage Sally and Rocky!
MOUND, MN – Hold onto your helmets, folks! Sausage Sally and her husband Rocky, the wildest couple we could find for an interview, are about to take you on a ride you won’t forget. These fun-loving Minnesotans let us know what folks can expect at the World’s Largest Motorcycle Rally.
Mark your calendars because dates for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota are August 2 to August 11, 2024. Now, on to our interview with this cute couple.
“We don’t just attend Sturgis, we own it,” Sally boasts from her Mound, Minnesota home.
Rocky grins, “You leave all the b.s. of life behind and just embrace the road.”
The duo has been attending the Sturgis biker rally since the early 1970s.
“We plan our life around it!” Sally says with a smoker’s cackle.
From Sleepy Town to Biker Mayhem
Imagine a quiet South Dakota town with just 6,627 residents, transforming overnight into a roaring beast of metal and leather.
Picture half a million bikers descending like a crazy, leather-clad, rock ‘n’ roll army. That’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for you!
The Ultimate Biker Bash
Every August, the sleepy streets of Sturgis erupt into a pulsating carnival of chrome, booze, and tattoos.
“It’s like Mardi Gras but with a hell of a lot more horsepower,” jokes Sally.
Live bands crank up the volume, the beer flows like rivers, and the party? Oh, it never stops. When asked how she earned her unique nickname, Sausage Sally isn’t dishing any secrets.
“Let’s just say we know how to have a good time,” her husband Rocky says with a laugh.
As for his moniker? Well, it’s not because he likes rock music.
“I grew up in International Falls, Minnesota – which is what they based Frostbite Falls on in the old Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon,” he explains. “I just love that show!”
Seeing the heavily tattooed man – who somewhat resembles a member from ZZ Top – one wouldn’t immediately think he was a fan of cartoons.
“All bikers are softies once you get to know us,” Sausage Sally says with a chuckle.
A Wild Ride Through History
Back in 1938, a small group of bikers gathered in Sturgis with no clue they’d spark a phenomenon.
Fast forward to 2015, when a staggering 739,000 bikers swarmed the town, setting a new record.
“It’s mind-blowing to see how it’s grown,” says Rocky.
What Really Goes Down
So, what’s the real scoop on Sturgis? Think of a wild, leather-clad carnival.
“It’s a feast for the senses,” Sally says, her eyes sparkling.
We’re talking motorcycle races, jaw-dropping bike shows, and even a tattoo contest where the ink flows as freely as the beer.
“You’ll see things you can’t unsee,” Rocky laughs.
The Dark Side of Fun
But let’s be real – Sturgis has its dark side. With so many bikers in one place, things can get risky. In 2015 alone, there were 136 accidents and 14 fatalities.
“Ride safe, keep your head on straight, and you’ll be fine,” Sally advises.
Sausage Sally and Rocky’s Sturgis Survival Tips:
Hydrate Like a Pro: “You’ll need it after all that partying,” says Sally.
Map Your Mayhem: “Know where you’re going, but don’t be afraid to get lost,” advises Rocky.
Savor the Ride: “It’s not just about the destination; it’s about the crazy journey,” Sally grins.
Ready to Roll?
So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags, hop on your bike, and head to Sturgis!
“It’s the ultimate freedom,” says Rocky.
Just remember, what happens in Sturgis stays in Sturgis.
“And trust me,” Sally winks, “what happens there is worth keeping secret.”
