Eventbrite is dedicated to bringing people together through unique experiences. Whether it’s exploring new hobbies, rediscovering cities, or meeting new people, Eventbrite’s mission is to offer diverse real-world events for everyone.

In today’s digital age, face-to-face interaction is crucial, especially in dating. Many singles are frustrated with online dating and crave in-person opportunities to connect over shared interests like paddleboard yoga, kombucha brewing, backyard beekeeping, or glassblowing.

The Shift to In-Person Dating

Over the past two years, Eventbrite has observed a shift from online to in-person dating. This trend reflects a broader societal craving for genuine connections and meaningful experiences.

The report explores why people are moving away from online dating and highlights popular events and activities that bring people together. From niche hobby-based meetups to cultural events and outdoor adventures, in-person interactions are becoming more appealing.

The Online Dilemma

Despite optimism, many Gen Zers and Millennials face challenges in online dating. They struggle to find genuine connections and often face disappointment and unmet expectations.

Only 31% of optimistic Gen Z and Millennials believe there are plenty of places to meet other singles. Profiles on dating apps are often reduced to a few images and brief descriptions, making it hard to find shared interests.

The Trust Gap

Safety concerns drive many Gen Zers and Millennials to prefer face-to-face meetings. In online dating, there’s a fear of encountering dishonest people or risky situations. About 47% of those favoring in-person meetings cite safety as a primary concern. Meeting in person eliminates the possibility of their date hiding their true identity.

Craving Deeper Connections

Modern daters seek connections that go beyond surface-level interactions. Many Millennials prefer in-person dating because it feels more genuine.

They believe that in-person interactions provide better emotional connection and understanding. More than half of daters, including 54% of Gen Z and 53% of Millennials, find it hard to start or maintain meaningful conversations online.
