ST. PAUL, MN – You never know where someone might try to hide when they’re desperate. Officers from the Biggleswade Community Policing Team in Bedfordshire, United Kingdom were wrapping up a search when they stumbled upon one of the strangest hideouts they’d ever seen — inside the base of a sofa.
Search Leads to a Surprising Discovery
On October 11, officers executed a search warrant in Potton. At first, they thought the search was complete, noting nothing suspicious apart from a “friendly dog” found inside the property.
However, something about the sofa seemed off. It was unusually heavy, prompting the officers to take a closer look. Working together, they flipped the piece of furniture onto its side, revealing a man hiding inside. A small slit in the fabric gave away his presence, showing his back pressed against the base of the sofa.
Officers Capture the Moment on Video
In body-worn camera footage shared by the Biggleswade police, an officer can be heard saying with amusement, “Oh, look who’s hiding in the sofa. Out you come.” The video shows the team pulling the man out from his cramped hiding place.
Police Share the Incident with Humor
On Facebook, the Biggleswade Community Policing Team posted the video, remarking, “We’ve seen some things in our time, but we must say this is a first.” The post continued with a light-hearted jab: “We thought the man would be more comfortable tucked into bed, so he’ll be spending the next few hours in a custody cell — little less of a squeeze.”
Police did not provide further information about the man’s alleged crime or what triggered the search warrant. As of now, the nature of the charges he may face remains unclear.
