LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday announced the arrest of a suspect captured on video setting a fire in front of a police station.
At around 7:15 a.m. on Aug. 26, LAPD Central Division officers were alerted to a fire right outside the front door of the station. The front desk officer and Watch Commander responded to the front of the station, and the fire was “immediately” contained with no injuries.
Surveillance video shared by the LAPD shows the suspect lighting a fire right next to the front door of the station. The suspect can be seen loitering nearby for a short time to watch the flames grow, then walking away.
Officers canvassed the area, and ultimately arrested 37-year-old Dimitrios Vlahopouliotis for arson. Police said he also had an outstanding felony warrant for arson.
Vlahopouliotis was booked at the Metropolitan Detention Center on $110,000 bail. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed one count of arson of a structure.
