ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MN – Children’s laughter filled the school bus as they chatted about the upcoming day: playful gossip about homework, teachers, and friends. Their joy came to an abrupt end at 8 a.m. on Thursday, when an SUV allegedly ran a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 5 and Town Line Road near Cherry Township, Minnesota.

The impact of the collision caused the school bus to spin and overturn, transforming a routine journey to the Cherry School into a scene of utter chaos and concern. It’s every parent’s nightmare.

Students Injured, Drivers Hospitalized

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that all 21 students on board sustained minor injuries. Some were taken to local Iron Range hospitals for further evaluation.

Both the bus driver and the SUV driver were also injured and transported to area hospitals; their current conditions are unknown.

The bus was en route to the Cherry School, which serves approximately 600 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Students of all ages were on the bus, according to St. Louis County Schools Superintendent Reggie Engebritson.

School Offers Support to Affected Families

In the aftermath of the accident, Superintendent Engebritson has been contacting families to check on students’ conditions.

Extra counselors and support staff from surrounding schools in the district have been dispatched to the Cherry School to provide assistance and comfort to students and families impacted by the incident.
